Cpanel EasyApache update

September 4, 2006

EasyApache is a pre configured script that allows you to easily update Apache Web server through WHM or SSH on a server running cPanel. In this tutorial we will show you how to update apache using SSH /scripts/easyapache.

You must have root access in order to perform this update. You must backup your server before proceeding*.

*Failure to do so will enact the murphy() function immediately upon running the script. Results may vary.

Onto the show…

  1. Login to your server using ssh and switch users to root.
  2. Run /scripts/easyapache #Don’t worry, nothing will be done yet..
  3. Select the options you want for your configuration, I like to use option 7. Load old config and then modify if necessary.
  4. You will be shown the config options to build apache with. Press space bar to select/deselect which options you want, use arrow keys to move and enter to go to sub menu. Go to PHP module options Move cursor to PHP and press enter. You will now see more options you can select.
  5. Once you have selected your config options for Apache Exit, Exit, Yes to safe config.
  6. Apache will now recompiled with your options and modules. Wait for it to complete, this takes 15-30 minutes depending on the speed of your machine and options selected.
  7. Apache restarts - You should see a message that says “httpd started ok”. This means you’re good to go and Apache is done!
  8. Check your error_log to ensure nothing bad is happening while you are testing the site.

Check your websites to ensure everything is okay and working properly.
